Check your Bar website or our list: https://www.clecast.net/materials The law around privacy, family planning and abortion has been changing over the past 100 years in the United States. The Supreme Court recently said that abortion is not covered by the U.S. Constitution, allowing states to legislate more freely around the procedure. The shortly after this change from Roe v Wade has shown this is having major impacts as trigger laws went into effect and family planning decisions may be implicated. Two years after the Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization decision, the Court was asked to weigh in on more issues surrounding how far laws about abortion can go. This CLE will look at the history of abortion and family planning in American jurisprudence and how the right to privacy is implicated in these issues. We will also discuss the most recent cases heard by the Supreme Court. This knowledge base will ensure you are up to date on this area of constitutional law and give you a basis for discussing this legal issue, whether advocating in court, with your elected officials, or elsewhere. The following cases are part of the presentation: Griswold v. Connecticut Roe v. Wade Planned Parenthood of Southeastern Pennsylvania v Casey Whole Woman’s Health v Hellerstedt Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization Idaho v United States Food and Drug Administration v. Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine
